PerfeXion with Lise Watier + a skin saver salad

A few weeks ago on an Instagram post, I asked how everyone was taking care of their skin. The answers ranged from drinking water, monthly facials, sleeping for + 8 hours, taking probiotics, to avoiding caffeine (I think I would die if I start my morning without coffee), and eating a balanced diet.
Healthy eating has been a part of my life for as long as I can remember. Plant based meals with fish once or twice per week plus regular workouts and a good skin care routine that I started in my teens, have helped my skin trough the years. Let's be real, traveling around the world as great as it is for the soul, is not so great for my skin, and this is due to many reasons.

Healthy eating has been a part of my life for as long as I can remember. Plant based meals with fish once or twice per week plus regular workouts and a good skin care routine that I started in my teens, have helped my skin trough the years. Let’s be real, traveling around the world as great as it is for the soul, is not so great for my skin, and this is due to many reasons.
The cabin air is extremely dry and regardless of how many bottles of water I drink on a flight, at the end of a Toronto – Athens, my skin is not happy and feels dull. Also, drum roll please …lately I’ve been finding a few uninvited wrinkles (rude) So what to do?
I’ve always believed in balance, the kind that comes with a healthy meal and a glass of wine here and there. A day in the beach with sunscreen all over my face. A “you are what you eat” way of life with the very needed help of the best skincare routine out there.
So here are my tips for women, who like me, don’t feel like welcoming wrinkles with open arms any time soon.

1. Water

A bit of a love – hate relationship between water and I, but I realize now more than ever, that it is so necessary. A must to start treating your skin from the inside out. I usually put a green tea bag in a 1.5 litre bottle for extra antioxidants and somehow this makes me drink the whole bottle too.

2. Antioxidants

Sun exposure is a leading cause cause of aging (and freckles all over my face too!) the sun creates free radicals that can destroy healthy skin cells, yet the sun is not the only culprit- an unhealthy diet can do the same. Load up on a variety of bright coloured fruit and vegetables like peppers and tomatoes and add berries to your morning oatmeal.

3. Omegas

Another way too feed your skin from the inside out. Omega fatty acids (6 and 9) are found in healthy fats and oils such as nuts, salmon, avocado, and eggs. They play a huge role in preventing and decreasing skin damage.

4. Exercise

I’ve often said that crossfit not only helps me keep in shape, but is also such a good stress reliever. It’s proven that stress is a leading cause in illnesses, aging and those pesky wrinkles. So run, try spinning classes, pilates and get sweaty! I could be having a stressful morning but the moment I leave crossfit, I feel uplifted and leave with the biggest mood boost of life. True story.

5. A great skin care line

All of the above is a must, but they need to go hand in hand with a skin care routine to target fine lines, sun damage and wrinkles directly. For the last month I’ve been using Lise Watier’s perfeXion, a proudly Canadian brand that helps correct the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles.
The perfeXion line has active ingredients that are delivered where the skin needs it the most. I’ve got to say that what I love the most about these products, besides the fact that my skin feels radiant and less dull, is that the serum and creams are made with natural ingredients such as Kakadu plum extract (the world’s richest source of vitamin C) and lentil extract to tighten the pores, refine fine lines and improve radiance. After a month of daily use I’ve noticed a huge difference, and when I land from a flight, my skin doesn’t feel like the dessert.
So cheers to self care, to living a balanced life, staying fit and glowing like it’s going out of style. If you need ideas for a healthy salad full of nutrients to feed your skin, I’ve got you covered with An arugula, blueberry and tuna salad, ingredients that help your skin glow. Check below for the recipe.

Ingredients

1 1/2 cups Baby arugula
1 can of good quality tuna in olive oil.
1/2 cup blueberries
1 tbsp roasted almonds or pecans
2 tbsp feta cheese
1 tbsp olive oil
1/2 tbsp maple syrup
Directions
Place arugula on a plate and add the rest of the ingredients on top. If arugula is not your thing, try baby spinach. A poached egg and extra avocado on it make it a great meal
