Google Home. Like a kid with a new toy.

Don't you love how some things just make your life easier? A few weeks ago I got the new Google home, a voice activated speaker powered by the Google assistant that with direct access to what you've saved in your phone, will bring you the info you want with a simple "Hey Google!"

Right away I knew the perfect place for it. Where else but in my kitchen, the soul of our home? This is where the girls and I spend most of our time. From catching up to whipping up meals. At first, not going to lie, I was worried that it would be hard to set up. Just know that my tech skills are made for blogging and Instagram and... that's it. So I guess that's another reason to never assume because installing it was as easy as downloading the app to my Google Pixel and plugging google home into an outlet. Voila!

At first, not going to lie, I was worried that it would be hard to set up. Using voice recognition you can ask Google Home pretty much everything under the sun. I’ve been starting my mornings with “Hey Google! Tell me about my day,” and as I sip mymorning latte I hear every event I have set up for the day, hair appointments (or treat yo’self Fridays), things I have to pick up at the grocery store and travel plans, including world news and traffic for my way to work. With your permission, Google Home will also retrieve info from your calendar, control your home’s lighting and even set your alarms and timers.

Working on recipes has gotten even easier. I often use Google to convert measurements while I bake. Grams to tablespoons for life. Now I’ve been asking Google Home without having to cover my phone in flour. While cooking multiple dishes, you can set different timers for each (genius much?!). Since the kitchen is also where I dance while I cook -true story, Google Home has access to my Spotify playlists, taking me from Robyn S “Show Me Love” to my favourite indie playlist where Arcade Fire lives 🙂

What about list making? I need to write down everything otherwise I’ll forget. By asking Google Home to start on a shopping list for things I need to pick up at my local grocery store, I have everything planned before I leave home.

Life is about simplicity and also about what makes you smile, so I’ve been like a kid with a new toy for the past few days and I’m loving it. Oh and dancing to everything while I’m at it.

This post was made in collaboration with Google however all views, opinions and dance moves are my own.
